Spanish legislation
Spanish current legislation in regards with pharmacy services allows
privileges and restrictions among their professionals. Such
legislation can not be acceptable in a country with established
principles of democracy, equality and freedom.
“Mediterranean Model of Pharmacy” clearly discriminates and
undermined Pharmacists not owing a pharmacy, and does not follow
same principles than other similar groups of high qualified
professionals (chiropodists, doctors, lawyers, vets, architects,
etc). Those professionals can provide their services privately and
without restrictions other than regulations concerning their own
practice and ethics. Our profession is being jeopardised by these
restrictive regional regulations, not allowing us to compete fairly
within a free market.
Pharmaceutical societies
Our regulatory authorities (pharmaceutical societies) are also
sending legal reports in order to justify and avoid any action by
the EU commission. There has not been any consultation to produce
those documents. They have been produced to protect the current
system defending their main source of funds, pharmacists owning
shops.
This Initiative came up from a group of pharmacists fed up of seeing
how our pharmacy authorities are only working for pharmacist owing
pharmacies, and ripping off young pharmacists with salaries below
Spanish National Average (1000€ per month) when many pharmacy owners
fail themselves to fulfill their legal responsibilities. |
